Philosophies of Education

  1. Idealism - The universal mind or God is central in understanding the world. Frobel, Kant, Plato, Swami Dayanand, Vivekananda and Sri Aurobindo are proponents of idealism;
  2. Naturalism - nature alone represents the entire reality. The main protagonists of naturalism are Tagore, Rousseau, and Herbert Spencer;
  3. Pragmatism - whatever is useful is good, and whatever is good is useful. The thinkers John Dewey, Kilpatrick, Mead are some of the main exponents of this philosophy;

Teaching is "triadic" in nature. Involves 3 core elements.

  2. Student
  3. Subject matter
  1. Teaching and learning are two processes which are interrelated;
  2. One of the sole aims of teaching is to bring out some positive transformation in students with the enhancement of student's knowledge base;
  3. All teaching should focus on enhancing the learning outcomes of students. However, if the process of teaching is not good then it will be a teaching process with no productive learning outcome;
  4. Another vital point to remember is that a teacher although teaches but learns also. A teacher while teaching students goes through the process of self-learning;
  5. The process of learning is life long as there is no end to enriching the knowledge level of an individual;
